About Malapascua
Malapascua is a small island — just 2.5 by 1 kilometers — off the northern tip of Cebu, near Daanbantayan, reached by a short outrigger boat ride from Maya wharf. Despite its size, it has built an outsized reputation among divers, beach-lovers, and anyone looking for a quieter, more laid-back alternative to Cebu's bigger tourist hubs.
Malapascua is best known internationally for one thing: thresher sharks. Monad Shoal and Kimud Shoal, a short boat ride from the island, are among the very few places on Earth where these sharks can be reliably seen in the wild, gliding through a natural cleaning station most mornings around sunrise. No baiting, no feeding — just an early start and a bit of patience. It's the reason serious divers put Malapascua on their list in the first place.
Bounty Beach, on the island's southeastern edge, is where most visitors end up spending their downtime — a long stretch of pale, powdery sand lined with small resorts, beach bars, and restaurants, with a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that's a world away from the more built-up beach towns further south.
Beyond the thresher sharks, the waters around Malapascua offer plenty for snorkelers and divers alike: coral gardens, macro life, and day trips out to nearby Gato Island and Chocolate Island. It's also a common jumping-off point for excursions further out to Kalanggaman Island's famous sandbar.
Whether you're coming for a serious dive trip, a few days of doing nothing on a beautiful beach, or simply to see somewhere less crowded, Malapascua rewards the extra bit of travel it takes to get there. Our Malapascua tours below are built to make that trip from Cebu City straightforward, whether you're after a day tour or a longer stay
